Art of The Mothmen

We are the known as the Mothmen. We are both painters and sculptors.

We produce our work in strange places, atempting to attain unique connection and  inspiration directly from a places steeped in history and atmosphere.

Why the 'Mothmen' and our logo explained.

In classical mythology, the moth is a universal symbol for the soul (psyche). Unlike a butterfly, which seeks the warmth of the sun, the moth flies through darkness, single-mindedly driven toward a light it cannot see.

The heavy, calcified wing pulse represents the first breath of eternity, a violent, rhythmic awakening into a new state of being.

The Central Eye reflects omniscience and awareness. In the mortal world, sight is limited. In the afterlife, the opening of the central eye represents true awakening and the stripping away of human illusion. The radiating lines of the iris mimic both a light source and a cage, signifying that the soul is now locked into absolute, eternal truth.

We're two artists who have spent our lives chasing the feeling that there is something more, in an old building, in a landscape that remembers, in the act of putting paint down somewhere that has seen things we'll never fully understand. We have a condition called fibromyalgia, which means our bodies don't always cooperate.

From our physical reality of fibromyalgia, to the spiritual connection of our souls being manipulated by a space, our mission is to make something beautiful, honest, and at times dark. We have found that discovering  that the strangest places have a way of pulling the most honest work out of us.

Every piece we make has a location, a history, and a story behind it. When you buy something from us, you're not buying a print or a canvas, you're buying a piece of somewhere, the environmental and 'spiritual' aspects of a space, but also the artistic translation of how we feel and how that space impacts upon us, mentally and physically. Is it our internal expression, or that of the space? Art made by two people who believe that energy doesn't disappear, it just takes a different frequency.

This is where spirit takes form.

If this sounds like your kind of thing, you're exactly who we made this for.
